Support for Parents, Children & Teenagers
If you’re here, you’re likely concerned about your child or teenager and trying to figure out what kind of support might help. Many parents arrive feeling unsure, worried, or overwhelmed — that’s a very natural place to be. Together, we can figure things out.
Support That Begins with You
Children and teenagers grow and cope within the context of their family relationships. When parents are supported to better understand what’s happening for their child, meaningful change often begins at home. Sometimes this is all that’s needed; at other times it creates the conditions for therapy with a child or teenager to be truly helpful. For this reason, therapeutic parent support is the starting point of all referrals.
How the Process Works
Parents seeking therapy for their child or teenager are asked to join both waiting lists.
Parent support begins first, this work moves more quickly and helps lay the foundations for work with your child or teen.
Child and adolescent psychotherapy/play therapy is introduced, once a place becomes available and your child/teen still need’s to attend.
When it comes to younger children, there may have been enough resourcing provided through parent support alone that it becomes unnecessary to see a child.
For teenagers, parent work is of course still helpful, but it often becomes more important to work directly with the young person given their stage of development.
